AWS Publications Committee Webinar: Global Perceptions of Women in Surgery

Please join us for enlightening discussion with voices of women in surgery from across the world as we foster learning through shared experiences, and support and advocate for women trainees and surgeons globally through the AWS platform.

Speakers:

  • Dr. Hina Inam is a cardiac surgeon , Assistant Professor and Program Director at Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi. She is the first female cardiothoracic surgeon to graduate from her institution and has completed advanced fellowship training in complex cardiac surgery from Canada, with experience in minimally invasive cardiac surgery, aortic interventions, and valve repair. Alongside her clinical work, she is actively involved in surgical education, mentorship, research, and global women in surgery advocacy. Her interests include innovation in low and middle income countries, simulation based surgical training, diversity in surgery, and the integration of AI in medical education and healthcare systems. Dr. Inam is passionate about building supportive communities for women in surgery and inspiring the next generation of surgical leaders.
  • Dr. Joyce Chege is a General Surgeon based in Nairobi, Kenya, with clinical interests in Upper GI Surgery, minimally invasive surgical techniques, and surgical research.

    She holds the FCS (COSECSA), MRCS (Eng), and an MSc in Surgical Sciences with Distinction from the University of Edinburgh. She believes African patients deserve to be represented in the stories global surgery tells about itself and is committed to building that evidence base through locally generated data and research conducted on home soil.
